Enhancing traditional therapy with self-guided VR experiences that redefine the recovery journey.

Using virtual reality headsets, The Retreat immerses the user in a calming virtual world designed to engage the senses, improve a user’s focus on psycho-educational content, provide moments of distraction or meditation, and support therapists and clinicians with a self-guided resource that can be available 24/7 for their patients.

An innovative approach to support Residential, PHP, IOP, and Outpatient Recovery Programs

In The Retreat, Lighthouse XR is tapping into the concepts and lessons behind a CBT-based program used by the Veterans Health Administration and integrating them into an open world, immersive and interactive environment – a cabin on a lake.

EVIDENCE – BASED SESSIONS
17 focused sessions include lessons in CBT, coping strategies, morals/values, relapse/triggers, relationships, and more. The Retreat has over 50 lessons, 23 “fireside chats” hearing from people with lived experience and diverse voices, 11 activities and mini-games, 9 unique meditation lessons, and 18 diversionary experiences that the guest can explore (like a road trip across the US in a convertible). More sessions, activities, and meditations are currently in various stages of production.

EXTENDING CLINICAL RESOURCES
Leverage as little as 1 hour of in-person therapy for AUD, OUD, and other substance use disorders into an additional 3-7 hours per week with VR that can be available 24/7. The program can offload the introduction and exploration of core recovery concepts, enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most.

BUILT BY A WORLD-CLASS VR TEAM
With previous clients like AARP, PBS/NOVA, The Dubai Mall, and Toyota, the Lighthouse XR team is a trusted technical and creative partner in VR research & development that has been collaborating with Virginia Commonwealth University and the US Veterans Health Administration to develop this program using ongoing human-centered design since 2020.

A 2024 study showed that individuals who opted to be issued a TST-VR headset were significantly more likely to successfully complete the residential SUD treatment program (86.1%) vs. those who did not receive a headset (60%).
